OSF Innovation helps two nurses develop solution for cancelled surgeriesopens in new window
Hundreds of surgeries were being cancelled each year at OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria because patients had implantable medical devices that needed to be researched and accounted for as part of pre-surgery planning. Surgical nurses Mary Marvin and Jill Teubel came up with a paper-based medical device table for surgical teams to quickly gather any implant information they need ahead of surgery. In hopes of scaling and commercializing their concept, they submitted their prototype to OSF Innovation Studio, and with some outside help, they developed the idea into a web-based application they hope to commercialize with a spin-off company called OpenSurg.
