Final Wee Tee Weekend Ushers in Almost Home Kids

After 68 years of family fun, Wee Tee Golf Center in Peoria is closing. The site will become Almost Home Kids, an affiliate of OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois.

Almost Home Kids will bridge the gap between hospital and home. It will provide important community-based transitional care in a home-like setting to children with medically complex conditions, as well as training for their families and respite care.

Saturday the Wee Tee family, OSF HealthCare leaders and members of the community gathered to celebrate the golf center's success during its nearly 7 decade run in the Peoria community.

Wee Tee owners Bruce and Kelly Mehl say the experience is bitter sweet. While they are closing the door on their ownership and are saying goodbye to the business they tended for more than 30 years, they are happy to know their beloved land will hold Almost Home Kids and will continue to be a blessing to the community.

"We did take care of this, and now something so good is going to come from it," said Kelly Mehl. "So, I love that, and I'm going to keep that in my thoughts. It's not going to be sad to me now like it was, because I am going to think about that."

"This property is now going to continue to be used for children," added Bruce Mehl. "It's been a place for families and children since 1949, and it will continue that way, maybe for another 100 years. So it's exciting that our legacy is going to be left here for kids to get healed."
