New Addition to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center Opening Soon

It will be the only all-private room hospital in Rockford

It's been a long anticipated - nearly three years to be exact - but the day is finally here. OSF HealthCare Saint Anthony Medical Center is ready to open the doors on its brand new North Tower addition.

The centerpiece of the 144-thousand square foot, four story tower is the 78-private patient rooms, serving cardiology, orthopedic and general surgery patients. The added spaces means OSF Saint Anthony is the only all-private room hospital in Rockford.

Designed with plenty of input from nurses and other caregivers, the rooms enhance treatment and comfort for the patient. There is even added in-room space for family and visitors, including a fold out bed for those wishing to spend the night with a loved one.

"To be able to have one room - one patient per room is really going to make our patients satisfied and assist with the overall satisfaction of the health system," says Isaac Braun, Patient Access Manager at OSF HealthCare Saint Anthony Medical Center.

Additionally, the North Tower has plenty of out-patient amenities on its main floor. That includes a PromptCare for treatment of non-emergent injuries and medical needs. The retail pharmacy will allow patients to have their prescriptions filled on site.

There's also a rejuvination area added to our Women's Center where appointments can be made for a massage and other spa-like services.

The new demonstration kitchen provides patients and the public the opportunity to learn healthy meal preparation.

"This day really makes me feel proud," says Christina Eldridge, Manager of Patient Experience and Volunteer Services at OSF HealthCare Saint Anthony Medical Center. "This is a significant investment for our institution, but it's a significant investment for the communities we serve in northern Illinois.

IT (internet technology) manager Jill Donahue and her team have worked on the North Tower project from the beginning. She says patients and caregivers will find a lot of new technology, including digital unit manager boards for keeping track of patients and the nurses serving their needs. She invites people to see for themselves.

"They really need to come check out OSF", says Jill Donahue, IT Project Manager at OSF HealthCare Saint Anthony Medical Center. "We already have great things and the North Tower just makes us even better."

The public gets its first look inside the North Tower on Saturday, April 7 during a community open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Patients will be transferred into the new rooms the following weekend and the North Tower will be fully operational starting April 16th.
