Health Hikes Hyped at OSF HealthCare Saint Anthony

Campus walking trail opens

It's another step forward for OSF HealthCare Saint Anthony Medical Center's Blue Zones initiative.

The first phase of a walking trail on the hospital's East State Street campus was blessed and dedicated today.

While now only being able to accommodate a short stroll, the wooded path, which will eventually stretch nearly a quarter mile, is another addition to a series of walking areas around the medical center to promote exercise and wellness among OSF's health care employees.

The walking path is just one of several projects and programs OSF Saint Anthony is adopting as part of its effort to become a Certified Blue Zones® worksite. Blue Zones Project® is designed to surround populations with support that makes healthy choices second nature, reducing risk factors for disease, lowering health care costs, and improving productivity, among other benefits.

Promoted by Transform Rockford, OSF HealthCare Saint Anthony Medical Center is the first local company to adopt and implement the Blue Zones Project®.

“Our Mission Partners are dedicated to providing the greatest care and love for our patients, and we’re excited about launching this transformative effort with Blue Zones Project® to make that caring easier,” says OSF HealthCare Saint Anthony Medical Center President Paula Carynski. “By modeling the benefits of self-care, and the possibilities of reshaping our surroundings for higher well-being, we hope to inspire even broader change in Rockford.”
