OSF HealthCare St. Joseph Medical Center Receives 5 Star Rating by CMS

OSF HealthCare St. Joseph Medical Center recently earned a Five-Star Rating – the highest possible rating for quality and safety from the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

With this rating of five stars, OSF St. Joseph is one of only 20 hospitals in Illinois and is among only 337 hospitals of the 4,805 Medicare-certified hospitals across the country. Additionally, OSF St. Joseph the only medical center in the region to receive this five-star rating by CMS.

Recently noted by the Illinois Health and Hospital Association, there were a total of 185 Illinois hospitals in the comparison. Here’s how Illinois hospitals faired: one-star: 13, two-stars: 31, three-stars: 53, four stars: 44, five-stars: 20, not available: 24. The national average is three out of five stars.

Hospital Compare was created through the efforts of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), in collaboration with organizations representing consumers, hospitals, doctors, employers, accrediting organizations, and other federal agencies. The information on Hospital Compare helps consumers make decisions about where they receive their health care, and encourages hospitals to improve the quality of care they provide.
