OSF HealthCare Saint Anthony Medical Center Laboratory Receives Accreditation From the College of American Pathologists

Three OSF HealthCare Saint Anthony Medical Center laboratories have been awarded accreditation by the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

OSF’s main laboratory at Saint Anthony Medical Center, Rockford, IL, and laboratories at both Center for Health-Belvidere and Center for Health-Rock Cut all received accreditation. They are three of the 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.

“We are extremely proud to have been awarded this accreditation by CAP,” said Charles Brackett, director of Laboratory Services for OSF HealthCare Saint Anthony Medical Center. “This is the result of a lot of hard work displayed by many incredibly-talented laboratory staff members here at OSF. Our laboratory prides itself on working together as a team and this achievement recognizes that effort.”

The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, which started in the early 1960s, as being equal-to or more-stringent-than the government’s own inspection program.

During the CAP accreditation process inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.

“This inspection involves many departments here at OSF,” said Dr. Edward Santos, Medical Director, Laboratory Services for OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. “We appreciate the efforts by so many of our Mission Partners and thank them for their support.”
