OSF HealthCare Takes Next Step with Downtown Peoria Building Project

OSF HealthCare is pleased to announce it has signed a letter of intent with Dewberry for the design and engineering of its new downtown Peoria Ministry headquarters.

In January, OSF announced it was buying the property at 124 SW Adams Street, Peoria (commonly known as the former Chase building) from Caterpillar Inc. and will rehabilitate the century-old building into OSF HealthCare’s new Ministry headquarters. In addition to the Chase building, Caterpillar donated the Peoria Professional Building, the adjacent parking lot and $3 million to OSF for further development of amenities on the block.

We are excited to take this next step with our new headquarters project. It is our goal to return this building to its previous grandeur. We look forward to sharing this journey with the Peoria community.

The success of this project continues to be contingent on the building being listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing building within a historic district. This designation will make the building eligible for Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits to assist OSF with restoration costs. That process is ongoing with final approval expected by mid-summer.

In anticipation of the historic designation, OSF is moving ahead with design and engineering work on the building. Dewberry will be working with multiple specialty firms throughout Illinois to accomplish all that needs to be done in order to move the project forward.

“We are excited to take this next step with our new headquarters project,” said Bob Sehring, CEO, OSF HealthCare. “It is our goal to return this building to its previous grandeur and we are confident we have chosen a partner in Dewberry to help us accomplish that. While the general public might not see any outwardly visible work at this time, rest assured there is plenty of interior work along with historic documentation taking place. We look forward to sharing this journey with the Peoria community.”

The project is expected to take at least two years to complete. More than 700 OSF Mission Partners (employees) are eventually expected to be located in the downtown Peoria location.
