OSF HealthCare Little Company of Mary to retire North Pavilion

OSF HealthCare Little Company of Mary Medical Center will begin the carefully planned removal of the North Pavilion and the adjacent IT building starting in spring of 2026. The work is expected to be finished in the fall of 2026.

The decision was made following a comprehensive structural assessment that determined the building could no longer be feasibly renovated and that maintaining it would direct resources away from patient care and future growth.

“As we look to the future, it is essential that our campus evolves to meet the needs of the patients, families and communities we serve,” said Kathleen Kinsella, president, OSF Little Company of Mary Medical Center.

“Our Little Company of Mary Sisters fully support this next step in our Ministry,” said Sister Carol Pacini, LCM. “We have great confidence in the OSF team leading this work and remain committed to ensuring the people we serve continue to receive compassionate, high-quality care and have access to a chapel.”

All outpatient services previously located in the North Pavilion have been transitioned or are being relocated to other suitable spaces on or near campus. These moves ensure that patients continue to have full access to services with no interruption.

Honoring sacred spaces

OSF HealthCare is committed to protecting the spiritual heritage of the campus. Therefore:

·    A temporary chapel is currently available on the first floor near Admitting.

·    OSF will respectfully relocate the existing chapel within the North Pavilion, working to preserve and repurpose as many elements as possible into a new permanent chapel.

·    All outdoor relics and sacred items located near the North Pavilion will remain protected and untouched throughout the project.

“The spiritual life of this campus is at the heart of who we are,” said Kinsella. “We will take great care to honor the history, meaning and memories connected to these sacred spaces.”

Planning will continue for the long-term vision of the north end of the OSF Little Company of Mary campus. Additional updates will be shared throughout 2026 as designs are refined and future opportunities are evaluated. As demolition approaches and plans progress, OSF HealthCare will continue to keep patients, families, neighbors and community partners informed.
